Since you have a dog, you have entered into a no-plea agreement with your dog. It is your duty whether you like it or not to groom your dog. You should also know how to groom your dog yourself, so that you can still groom him or her when short in cash.

This article is basically an overview of how proper pet grooming is done. Grooming is not only for making your dog beautiful or stink free. Grooming also helps the skin become shinier because the blood supply is stimulated. It also helps remove the dead hair and prevents matting. Therefore grooming should not be overlooked and taken more seriously.

You should immediately train your dogs to be groomed when brought home. This will help them getting used to the pampering and go directly to you. However, if you’re the type of guy who thinks being stinky and messy is macho for a dog, it is perfectly all right to groom the dog once in a blue moon.

Brushing:

• The nutritional status and health of the dog is reflected on his skin and his fur coat.

• Some dogs do not require that much brushing, but the long haired and curly ones require regular brushing.

• Brushing once or twice week is already good for the dog’s health.

Bathing:

• Bathing depends on the dog’s breed, lifestyle, skin type, hair coat and how dirty he or she becomes.

• It is best to bathe your pet when he becomes messy and smells stinky.

• Some prefer to bathe them once or twice a month.

• Try to rinse well all the soap as it might cause allergies.

• A special kind of shampoo might be needed for dogs who scratch a lot. Also let your veterinarian check for skin diseases.

Skin Problems:

• Contact your veterinarian if you notice much scratching, flaky skin or hair loss.

• Those might be the symptoms of mites, ticks, fleas, infections or allergies.

• Ask your veterinarian the best way to remove these problems.

Ears:

• Dogs with oily skin or allergies require much cleaning of the ears.

• Because this is a much sensitive task ask the veterinarian to do it. You may not also want to put your finger inside dog ears.

• Clean the dog’s ears every two to four weeks to remove wax.

• Ask the veterinarian for the proper products and ask him or her to demonstrate the cleaning of the ears as well.

Nail Trimming:

• Ask the veterinarian to show you how it’s done properly.

• Clip only a few nails in one sitting

• By maintaining a regular schedule when cutting the nails, your pet will become more cooperative and patient.

By maintaining these proper grooming tips on your dog, he or she will become a regular lothario. Your pet could even be an ambassador on good grooming. Just remember that looking good helps the morale of your pet too.
