The Cure for Fleas

Having a flea on a dog is very serious. Some people think that it’s as easy as locating the flea and squashing it. That’s the problem however, fleas are always hard to find because they are always moving around the environment rather than on your dog. The fleas that have plagued one of your dogs may also have plagued the rest of your pets too.

In fact one person can develop such a dislike for fleas in such a short time. Just imagine how much more pain the dog goes through. As a dog owner, we will definitely feel pity towards the dog. So here are some ways to prevent fleas and also being able to cure the afflicted areas.

Here are some useful ways to get rid of the flea once the dog has been infested:

• Look for commercial products that have flea control. These products include shampoos, flea collar, powder, spray and dips. There are also systemic-spot on insecticides and oral products that have been developed lately to help fight fleas.

• Sprays, powders and dips have only temporary lasting effect, because the best way to combat fleas is attacking directly the area where the eggs, pupae, larvae and adults come together.

• The medication should be repeated periodically because some of the flea’s life stages lives on for a long time.

• To prevent fleas from reinfecting your dog, you also must clean and treat their living areas and the places they play.

• Use a vacuum cleaner that contains flea powder in its bag to suck out the fleas. If you do not put powder, the fleas will only become incubated. It is best in some situations to just call the pest control.

The methods above are very time consuming. There are now newer ways to combat and prevent fleas from further harming your dogs.

• Look for drugs that are insect growth regulators, they are able to interrupt the life cycle of the flea by killing the larvae and the eggs. These drugs do not kill the adult fleas. An example of an insect growth regulator drug is the drug Lufenuron which can either be injected or taken orally.

• If you want the adult flea killed and work faster the use of spot-on products that is applied on the skin between the shoulders is quite useful. The skin absorbs the medication and it distributes it to the whole body. When the fleas come in contact with the skin, they immediately die. Such drugs include imidacloprid (Advantage), fipronil (Frontline), and selamectin (revolution).

• Nitempyram which is just new can kill fleas in 30 minutes when taken orally.

By being able to use these products, your dog will have a better chance in winning against his war on fleas. His war on fleas maybe compared to George Bush’s war on Iraq. He made claims that there were weapons of mass destruction but he found none. But nevertheless, he still continued on with his fight against Iraq. Consider your fight like that, even though you haven’t seen any fleas but see symptoms of scratching and itching, prevent it form spreading further. Stop the terrorism of fleas right away
